Petrutt // Interview // Tzinah Podcast // October 2020 //

Petrutt is an electronic music producer based in Bucharest, RO. His music passion arose when he was just a kid, thus he started dabbling with DJ equipment when he was 17. Soon enough, learning about music and production, he started experimenting and translating his own ideas into music beats. Those ideas became tracks and he soon started getting releases with labels such as Tzinah Records, Cultura Records, Questionmark Records and Soblazn Music. His production style has influences from other genres such as rock or hip hop. Petrutt’s tracks vary from micro-house to breakbeat. His side project “dj kob” features a slightly different approach to electronic music, combining dub beats, drone music and even soundtracks. He currently focuses on creating his own sound, like a signature to make his tracks have more of a personal identity.

Tzinah Records: To start with, please, recommend us something to listen to while we go through this interview. It can be anything.
Petrutt: There’s a track I’ve been hooked to over the last year or so. It’s called On the silver line and it’s performed by Naxatras, a psychedelic rock band from Greece. The whole album is pure gold, and can be found on their bandcamp.

Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
Petrutt: I was into music since my early ages. Growing up, I think everything just came naturally, I have not started all this for a sole purpose.

Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
Petrutt: This music just lets me break the rules and step over the mainstream boundaries that the everyday music has. There are a lot of producers that inspired me along the time one way or another, hard to tell which one inspired me the most.

Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
Petrutt: The soil is fertile in Romania for the underground movement to develop in a manner that every talented artist will have their shot.

Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
Petrutt: Mostly VST’s and plug-ins.

Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
Petrutt: I listen to a lot of music everyday I’m at my job so I usually take inspiration from other tracks I hear, not necesarilly electronic music. It can be a snare in a hip-hop song or a chord in a rock track that I like or even a drum pattern that I’ll try to integrate within my ideas.

Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
Petrutt: I have not, but I think that would be a festival situation for me. Maybe Dekmantel Festival in The Netherlands. Really cool crowd .

Tzinah Records: What’s your favorite type of breakfast?
Petrutt: Eggs or milk & corn flakes.

Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
Petrutt: Traveling.

Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
Petrutt: After a long day at work, I like to spend some of my evenings mixing music through the night. This one has a slow-burning, organic vibe attached to it. Most of the tracks are released
