Herck // Interview // Tzinah Podcast // March 2015 //

HerckHerck (Cilibiu Sergiu-Mario), was born on the 15th of December 1990 in Arad. His love for music started early in his life! He was only 15 years old when he felt that, music and mixing became his passion! So at 17 years, he discovered some basic audio software and he took his first steps in the production world. Next step was learning how to produce his own records, and he’s trying to produce different styles, and be an unique artist. At the moment he’s spending most of his time on his studio working on original tracks, remixes and also collaborations. He believes that in a short period of time there will be people who loves selective electronic music.

Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
Herck: Of course, i guess every artist or dj knows when he start his first…let’s say, career in the music industry. Mine starts a 4 or 5 years ago, when one of my friend (who is now, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trainer, LOL) invite me to his little studio to share some ideas. Then something happen’…i knew this is what i want to do in the future, music production. I started with Fruity loops, like every artist do at that time…and now i’m using ableton, wich is the best for what i do :)

Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
Herck: I choose it because it makes me feel relaxed. That’s because in this genre, there are a lot of atmospheres, moods, melodic sounds that makes your goosebumps :) To be honestly, i created my own style and nobody helped me. I just listen a lot of other types of music, maybe that makes me an unique artist.

Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
Herck: Honestly ? It’s lacking…that’s because the mainstream scene dominate everything :)

Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
Herck: For my production routine…i use Ableton, one pair of Yamaha’s HS80-M studio monitor, a pair of Sennheiser HD25 and a midi keyboard from Arturia- Analog Lab, and of course some acoustic treatment for the room, hahaha

Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
Herck: Honestly…i listen a lot other genres of music, like…jazz, rnb, pop, lounge. In my opinion, nobody should limit to one type of music…they should develop their music knowledge and listen a lot of music.

Tzinah Records: Which underground house DJ or producer would you love to take out for a summer picnic? With which artist (from any music genre) would you spend 24 hours stuck in an elevator?
Herck: I would love to have a picnic with Simina Grigoriu, she is the cutest dj. And i probably spend 24 hours in an elevator with Pharell Williams…he is the greatest performers and live singer i’ve ever heard.

Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
Herck: No i didn’t, but never say never. I would love to play @ Ushuaia, Ibiza, even that scene is not for this kind of music i play, or produce.

Tzinah Records: What motivates you to be an active part of the underground movement?
Herck: Music and only music….

Tzinah Records: What’s your favorite type of breakfast?
Herck: English breakfast and orange juice :)

Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
Herck: I do desk job 9h/day to an auto parts company…

Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
Herck: The podcast itself it’s a story…with vinyl tracks and some unreleased tracks too :)

Tzinah Records: Are there any of your plans/upcoming projects that you would like to share with us? Where can we see you play next?
Herck: Now i’m working on several projects, vinyl and also digital. You can see me play this month, in my city @ ABC Teatru 20 of march with my ABC crew, and also Primărie, our guest.

Tzinah Records: Supposing you come back reading this interview in 10 years from now; could you try saying something to your future-self?
Herck: Keep workin’ and never give up :)
