Crescent // Interview // Tzinah Podcast // November 2017 //

Coming from Bucharest, Romania … a country that generated a lot of artists, Diego (aka Crescent) was made pleasant from the beginning in summer of 2012. Adopted easily by the underground world of Bucharest because of its well-defined style, colorful, linear, deep-techno with many influences. He’s been successful since his first appearance at several private parties. Wanting to express himself more, he started music production & in autumn of 2015 he released his first E. P. with Double Deez, “Suitable Diez” at Polyester Records [UK] followed by a “Various Artists” compilation from Tupiar Records with his soon to become famous tune “Brambura”. The summer of 2016 led him to a new underground production project, changing his alias to CRESCENT and defining a style of his own in the production industry. The new alias brings more of his personality in perspective with the same vibe but better structured, in line with the Romanian Underground hype. Recently he released on labels like Wavetech Limited and Tupiar & Tzinah Records.

Tzinah Records: To start with, please, recommend us something to listen to while we go through this interview. It can be anything.
Crescent: crescent podcast for tzinah records ✊️

Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
Crescent: somewhere in 2011 at a private party, there i played music for the first time to an audience. It was an amazing beginning.

Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
Crescent: I choose this musical style many years ago. I had very many friends who went to such places with such music. since then I am fascinated by this phenomenon and of course by those who are there in the booth at the buttons. my favourites are Livio & Roby, Thomas Melchior, Ricardo Villalobos and many others

Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
Crescent: from the city where I come from, especially from Bucharest, the underground work is moving better and better. weekly there are 4-5 events … the people is getting more and more attracted to this area

Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
Crescent: I think it is not necessarily a secret in general, everything is very labor-intensive and very positive. A lot of work with an “ableton” you know pretty well, a good sound card, an “vst” kaylab, and a drum maschine can do wonders.

Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
Crescent:  I think first of all there must be that desire, that passion. then those around you to understand and support you.. Last but not least, you have to do the necessary time to accomplish everything you have planned. the conclusion is that everything depends only on you..

Tzinah Records: Which underground house DJ or producer would you love to take out for a summer picnic? With which artist (from any music genre) would you spend 24 hours stuck in an elevator?
Crescent: nice one :)) … Raresh at picnic … Nastia in the elevator :))

Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
Crescent: probably the bpm festival somewhere through playa del carmen

Tzinah Records: What motivates you to be an active part of the underground movement?
Crescent: first of all the ambition to prove that I can do more than that. then the desire to conquer that much coveted desk

Tzinah Records: What’s your favourite type of breakfast?
Crescent: in this job I really can not eat breakfast. most of the time i fall asleep to the morning and wake me up somewhere after lunch. :)))

Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
Crescent: music … :)) … I spend my time with my family in general or relax at a football game

Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
Crescent: the vast majority of the tracks are my own products , all of them are unreleased .

Tzinah Records: Are there any of your plans/upcoming projects that you would like to share with us? Where can we see you play next?
Crescent: I will continue to work at least at the same level, my projects generally bind to the studio and I certainly hope that my time will come

Tzinah Records: Supposing you come back reading this interview in 10 years from now; could you try saying something to your future-self?
Crescent: surely that over 10 years i will have to work as much as before, and another 10 years after, I would greatly enjoy ?
