French-Italian DJ/.Producer based in Paris. Gianni and Julian aren’t just only brothers. Animated by the same musical universe, they made a new sound project between house, micro and minimale. Tzinah Records: To start with, please, recommend us something to listen to while we go through this interview. It can be anything.
Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
JULIAN : I remember when we were kids, we had a CD player at our grandparents house. We listened in repeat many single with Gianni in a small room all day long.
GIANNI : Now i just realise that we have always the same sensitivity for the music,since our childhood to our teens. By growing up playing music was made naturally.
Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
GIANNI : What i like in minimal and especially in the micro house is the mental side, it’s intense and deep but also physical. We can find some sounds like close similarities in the Jazz,Hip Hop,Dub… There is no limit, we couldn’t explain that. It is listening and is seen as an experience, it’s spiritual.
JULIAN : Some artist like Riccardo Villalobos, Zip, Fumiya Tanaka, Margaret Dygas, Sonja Moonear… but also the house stage from Chicago and the techno stage from Detroit which is at the beginning of everything and obviously the Romanian stage Arpiar.
Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
JULIAN : That’s exciting to live in Paris mostly when you like this kind of music, there is a lot of party house and techno every week end and even the days of the week, every day more collective and label from here are growing up like “YOYAKU”. Today a club like «CONCRETE» is one of the most important stage in Europe. That means we got a real stage and people for that.
Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
GIANNI:Usually we start our session separately.Then we exchange the sessions and rework together. We don’t need to talk to each other to understand. We are on the same wavelength. And when we feel that we had something good we rent many hours a studio for working on it. It’s really important for us to make the sound as we like.
JULIAN : We produce on Ableton Live with a bank of sounds that we made with time and we continue to expand, a few Vst,we also have a tr8 , Moog mother 32 and one MFBTanzbar. Our dj set up it’s 2 cdj usb/cd, 2 technics mk2, and xone 92.
Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
GIANNI : In general rule life influences our music, our travels and everyday encounters, all places are places of inspirations, a city, a nightclub, a park, a subway….
Tzinah Records: Which underground house DJ or producer would you love to take out for a summer picnic? With which artist (from any music genre) would you spend 24 hours stuck in an elevator?
JULIAN : « THE HUNGRY MAN » Nima Gorji is a really good friend and i know he loves eating ahaha
GIANNI : In the elevator with Bob Marley like that he can sing for us « Everything’s gonna be alright »
Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
GIANNI : Many club make me dream, Dc10 Ibiza, Fabric London, Club Midi…
JULIAN : Robert Johnson, Goa in Rome, Concrete ..
Tzinah Records: What motivates you to be an active part of the underground movement?
GIANNI : Because we love this music,this movement,his history and her values
Tzinah Records: What’s your favorite type of breakfast?
GIANNI : French breakfast
JULIAN : Too early for me start with lunch
Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
JULIAN : We work on our label project, spend time with our family and friends and we work out regularly.
Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
GIANNI : We will soon be out on the next VA DE TZINAH the podcast was made naturally we recorded it in our place in one afternoon. There is some news and unreleased.
Tzinah Records: Are there any of your plans/upcoming projects that you would like to share with us? Where can we see you play next?
JULIAN : 4 releases are provided between June and September, digital and vinyl only , we did a lot of remixes that should be released this year. We are resident for Districk Paris and the One Moment party. Not to mention our project of label which will arrive at the next coming months
GIANNI : The next date is at « FAUST » with Marc Milner and Grego G the 3rd June
