Millidiu // Interview // Tzinah Podcast // September 2019 //

Millidiu has always found a lot of musical influences among his family musicians & friends, his journey is in search of a musicality that is universal, with a beautiful history, independent of styles, but characteristically is a lover of jazz sonorities, instruments like piano rhodes and organic minimalist beats and hypnotic atmospheres, always trying to unify differentiated multicultural rhythms derived from their tireless research. Actually he is ahead of Deck 1264 radio and Deck 1264 Records.

Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
Millidiu: There are three moments: First when i play to 50 people in a closed party about 4 hours receiving a lot of energy and good vibes from them all 4 hours…was magical and it changed my life. In that moment i discover that to play music to people and to give all good feelings is one of my big pleasures, in that time i was learning to become a DJ. Second: When i discover softwares to make music, like fruity loops with my friend and producer Alec Araujo (13 years ago), we were arriving from a party and we decide to sit in front of computer and make some music. In that time i knew nothing about production and then he manipulates the software and i just tell him the ideas, but i was learning too. My first music with him, Hernan Cattaneo plays it and i get really excited with the news… after comes Ableton and others. And in my first time at studio playing drums with my friends.

Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
Millidiu: I passed through many genres till i got here, i believe truly that getting only the essential of the music, we have more quality and more versatility to implement another references inside my music from other styles and it always becomes beautiful. That is what i like more, we can listen for hours and we never get tired in our ears (like we get some headaches when listening to other styles for some time).

Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
Millidiu: Here are plenty of little cores but all active, the underground scene is always good because the places are beautiful and the people have good taste and love music and what they do.

Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
Millidiu: I have a simple home studio here with Yamaha HS8, that is with me from 10 years, and they are still perfect, very good monitors and high quality fidelity, some controllers to make some sampling and sessions, some few and good vsts like lizard, and native family and a audio technica turntable to sample and listen to references and looking in future for an acoustic bass and some percussion instruments to increment the creations here.

Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
Millidiu: My wife, my friends, we all look and like the same things, we love make some reunion to listen to our music, even when we don’t have parties around, and also i’m always looking for references when something touches me, in movies, in tv series or in a simple research on the internet looking for an old artist.

Tzinah Records: Which underground house DJ or producer would you love to take out for a summer picnic? With which artist (from any music genre) would you spend 24 hours stuck in an elevator?
Millidiu: Sonja Moonear, i have good memories from her in a day that we went to Amnesia and she helped me to send some music to Ricardo, he was playing with her in that night. She was so kind and she played so well that night, she is really a lady and one of the very best woman DJs i’ve know, she and my wife :) hehe.

Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
Millidiu: One DREAM venue is difficult to choose, but i’ve played in two of them here, in Brazil, one is D-EDGE, in super after party for 4 hours, was 9 A.M and in last hour of the DJ set people had to be invited to go away, because the floor was too crowded, and another is when i’ve played in garden floor at Warung Beach club, was magical 6 A.M and the rain was going away and a beautiful sunrise came after it, it was perfect.

Tzinah Records: What motivates you to be an active part of the underground movement?
Millidiu: The people, the lifestyle, and principally because i found my type of music.

Tzinah Records: What’s your favourite type of breakfast?
Millidiu: Favourite is not the best sometimes hehehe, but i like a toast from home made bread with cheese and orange juice #notsohealty.

Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
Millidiu: When is not playing i’m thinking on it, always, but i like to work with my second passion, crossmedia and techs, seeing some movie with my wife or traveling, or taking care and playing with Radu, @littleradu our Yorkie new son. :)

Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
Millidiu: The journey is about highs and lows, introspective initially but all connected in some way, always referencing something with rhythm, groove and a dance, with a beginning, middle and an end. Like all the good stories, you can just let all of it happen in your mind, for sure it will come, i hope people like it. There are some tracks unreleased from some friends like Pedro Floriani, Filip Szokstak, and the first track, the opening i’ve need to create something that i know that fits in all story told by me, so i improvise a new track specially to this podcast.

Tzinah Records: Are there any of your plans/upcoming projects that you would like to share with us? Where can we see you play next?
Millidiu: I’m taking care right now at Deck 1264 Records our label, and we are focused now to bring our first vinyl pressed till the end of the year, and after that we will beginning to make some showcases around the south of Brazil. www.deck1264.com.br soon with all info and news about it right there.

Tzinah Records: Supposing you come back reading this interview in 10 years from now; could you try saying something to your future-self?
Millidiu: Persistency, is the word, sometimes we think we are not going anywwere… but focus your energy on most important thing and keep going, there will always be signs, and kind words to push you ahead.
