fiL // Interview // Tzinah Podcast // August 2020 //

fiL had his first contact with what he likes to call raw-minimal in 2013 at local parties where Sunrise’s finest used to play. He started playing a few afterparties shortly after that. Presenting himself all over the country at highlighted events, 5 years later he could not help but fall in love with music and the minimal community, Tzinah being one he is part of. Local romanian artists, some obscure, some well known hold ranks in his playlists. His style is somewhat mixing a good selection into a melodic chain of events, a story that your imagination should provide… Positive vibes greet you in every set he plays.

Tzinah Records: To start with, please, recommend us something to listen to while we go through this interview. It can be anything.

Tzinah Records: Could you remember when and where have you felt it for the first time that you were to become a music artist?
fil: I am an artist in how I perceive and feel the world and playing is a medium thru which I can express myself.

Tzinah Records: Why did you choose to create and play this particular type of music? Are there any artists that touched you deeply while developing your own style?
fil: I wanted to know how to play the decks, after that I realised there are different modes to play. I like to combine tracks revealing something else. I love the fact that this genre is defined as repetitive, it is but good tracks make you feel sound not just hear it. But this is true for all genres.

Tzinah Records: Please, briefly, describe for us, the current state of the underground music scene in the place you come from. Is it any good?
Crashed, everything is not what it was, personally I think it won’t be the same again.

Tzinah Records: Without giving out too much about your secret weapons, please tell us how does the magic work in your production routine. Software? Analog? What does your DJ set-up imply?
fil: Crashed, everything is not what it was, personally I think it won’t be the same again.

Tzinah Records: What are the aspects of your daily life that are influencing the shape and sound of the music that you currently make?
fil: 3 pioneer cdj2000 and Allen and heath xone92 mixer considered standard in clubs. I do not own a proper set-up but I have friends where I can go play and record.

Tzinah Records: Which underground house DJ or producer would you love to take out for a summer picnic? With which artist (from any music genre) would you spend 24 hours stuck in an elevator?
fil: I already know and frequently meet most of the Romanian scene so this wouldn’t be a dream scenario for me.

Tzinah Records: Have you already played in your most-dreamed about venue? Which one is that?
fil: Most dreamed venue… Don’t have one, yet

Tzinah Records: What motivates you to be an active part of the underground movement?
fil: My job has landed me here and I can’t seem to want anything else.

Tzinah Records: What’s your favourite type of breakfast?
fil: Continental, eggs, toast, cheese, a bit of everything :D

Tzinah Records: What do you do when the music is not playing?
fil: This is rarely but I do find myself in “quiet mode” from time to time. I bike a lot, play games with my friends, keep in touch with people.

Tzinah Records: What’s the story behind your Tzinah Family Podcast? How did you record it and are there released or unreleased tracks?
fil: I am recording a lot of sets and now wish to make a few of them public…
